Those are sublets, OP. So they're probably temporary, and they're probably not legal.

Better to look on Craigslist under shared apartments, and you'll find something in your range, but it will be at the opposite end of the city from downtown. That's where the more affordable places are.

Why is it that you don't believe the people who have a lot more experience with the SF rental mkt than you do?

Let him come on in and get scammed. If he wants to learn the hard way, let him end up in the street.

"Educations" come in many forms and facets. Truth and reality are the best instructors.

There! Now do you take me seriously?

EDIT: I forgot one more! It might not be a one bedroom apartment, but cheap none of the less! Shafter, San Francisco CA - Trulia

Hi OP. In all seriousness, I'd suggest you study the listing that you posted in closer detail.

Your first listing, a studio in the Mission, is actually $650 per WEEK. It's $2,600 per month.

Your second listing is actually a roommate situation where you'd have to share the flat with two other people for $800. Now, maybe that is what you want but I it is definitely not $800 for a one bedroom, in fact the listing says it's $2,500 for the whole place.

Also, I would look to craigslist.org as the one and only source, not Trulia. Everyone posts on craigslist, I don't know why someone would use other source unless they are trying to hide something. It makes me thing the listings are either a scam or it is subletted illegally. If it is the latter, you can still rent from it but proceed with caution.
