Hello, folks! We sure could use some local knowledge here.

Criteria:

We want a route that lets us stay in cruise control as much as possible. I broke my foot... it's healing, and the doc says I can drive, but it gets sore. My partner can't drive.

So, ideal roads for us are ones where I can stay above 25mph, without many super-sharp curves (regular curves are fine), and not much stop and go city traffic.

We also want to keep the routeas short and quick as feasible -- we realise we are taking the scenic route, but we still want to get moving.

Looking at the maps, it seems like we have pretty much 3 choices:

Option one: San Ramon and Mt Diablo/ Curry Canyon / Briones Valley.

Option two: through Pleasanton, and then skirting the east side of Round Valley preserve.

Option three: From San Ramon or Pleasanton, through Tassajara, Finley Road to Morgan Road, Briones.

We've never been on ANY of these roads. Google street view helps, but not all that much. What can you wiser humans tell us?

Thanks so much for any info!

Augh! I had to drive from the Bay Area back to NM once, when I had knee pain that was aggravated by constant braking and accelerating. My brother managed to find a relative and her friend who had been planning a trip to Vegas, so I waited until they were ready to go, and they drove my car, and flew home when they were ready. The rest of the way cruise control saved me! Thank heaven for cruise control! I can't help you with your routes, but I wish you the best. Are you talking about a weekend drive? A vacation drive? Knowing the traffic patterns on weekdays and weekends would probably help.

Hi R4T!!!

Thanks for the empathy .

It would be a midday, weekday trip.

I found a fourth possible route to compare, too: Through Moranga and Walnut Creek.

Hi, you have my sympathy as well -- I would nix the Moraga route as it contains many very sharp up- and downhill curves in the section linking Oakland and Moraga, as well as many bicyclists on shoulder-less roads.
