I have heard of the superstition that Chinese have against someone dying in a home, and wonder whether that means that if one's parents have a house that the heirs scuttle them off to another place to die, likely going against the wishes of most of us who would prefer to die in our homes.

I have never hear of a problem with tree shadows, though. Is it something to do with feng shui? (about which I know very little.)

As a 2nd generation Chinese American, I find that to be not accurate at all. We contribute to the vibrancy like any other community would.

You can call any culture to be "homogenous and insular" if you want from any point of view, depending on how you frame it.

I will not blame solely on Chinese-Americans. As much as I agree that Chinese people overall for me tend to be very insular and closed off, they aren't big enough to influence the Bay Area to the way you are saying they can. You can blame the success of Silicon Valley and the policies that have been implemented in the Bay during the 1970s that have done more to sweep away the "free-spirited" culture of the Bay.

Are you free to and encouraged by your family and friends to data outside of your Chinese community/race?

A career's a career. If there was an influx of Google workers in those towns, businesses would sprout up to cater to them. Who knows, Dublin or Livermore might become happening places. lol
It would cause more sprawl in those regions.

My brother, sister and most of my cousins have out married. My spouse is Chinese but that's because I met her in Asia when I was working there.
