I was just out at a Christmas Tree farm out in Alhambra Valley and it sure seemed rural to me... the difference is last year there were no million dollar houses being built across the county line...

Rural is fast disappearing from much of the East Bay...

For anyone doubting how Asian the area around Dublin is, go to the Livermore Outlet mall. Lots of signs/advertisements in Chinese and there's the occasional Asian tour bus that comes by, too.

I'd always assumed the preponderance of Chinese language ads, etc. at that outlet was due to organized shopping tour groups, not local customers.

Outlet stores are more popular in general with immigrants. To get a good idea of the demographics of region go to Stoneridge Mall in Pleasonton, Blackhawk Plaza in Danvile, or Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.

There also seems to be a South Asian presence as well.

Maybe Broadway Plaza would be a better example but its also accessible to BART. Than there is Black Plaza which caters primarily to locals.

San Ramon -- 53.6% white (how white is that rice, Sunshine?)
Dublin -- 51.3% white (rice is getting a bit darker now)
Pleasanton -- 67.0% white (a little brighter), but 23.1% Asian (thought you said the rest were Latino, genius?)
Also the Southern portion of reagion seems be more Asian than Northern part such as Lamorinda, Please Hill, Walnut Creek, and Danville. It's number of factors, newer housing, access to Silicon Valley, jobs in Pleasonton as well. However I'm surprised Lamorinda hasn't changed as much do to it proximity to UC Berkeley.

Why would that change the demographics in Lamorinda?
