i will be working nearish to the 16th and mission BART stop.

I am making. 98k + up to 10k bonus.

I am from Ohio and looking for a great experience. I love weekend nightlife, totally single.

I would rather not spend 3k.

What areas? I've looked SOMA, dogpatch, etc area. And also outside at walnut creek, and then south.

Please advise. This is a huge move happening really fast

It's a tough one - with that number of people San Francisco's going to be a mega city.

If you would rather not spend 3K, and still want to be in a central area with lots of nightlife, you'll need to share an apartment with someone. There's really no other way - unless you're OK living in a tiny studio, and even then you'd be hard-pressed to meet your budget.

But San Francisco is full of people sharing apartments - it's pretty much the norm here for people under 30. And for many over 30 as well.

Since you'll be working in the Mission, I'd recommend starting your search there. Being able to walk or bike to work would really enhance your enjoyment of the city.

pch, totally willing to live with people.

I have been scouring CL for the past two days and sending out feelers to all sorts of people.

I am definitely looking in the SoMa, dogpatch, Potrero hill area.

I have also been told by a friend that the Walnut Creek area, while 30 min BART ride, is definitely a much less expensive place to live. Any thoughts on that? How is that area for a 28'/m single straight male?

If you're really 28 feet tall, you might find it difficult to fit onto BART trains.

I can't vouch for Walnut Creek, but if you plan not to have a car, then when you visit SF you'll be totally reliant on BART - which stops running at midnight.

But anyway, there are some handy resources on Facebook for room-seekers. If you search for "bay area rooms" you'll see what I mean. Most, but not all, of those are also posted on CL though.

I can see a fair number of decent choices for 90% of $3,000 or a bit less.

I used to live on Nob Hill and loved it. It's great because not only do you have the Nob Hill neighborhood itself, but it's an easy walk or cable car ride to Chinatown, Polk Gulch, North Beach, Russian Hill, Union Square and downtown.

Only complaint is if you have a car and the place doesn't provide parking, it's a real drag. You'll have to pay $300-400 more for a spot in a garage and it may be a few blocks away.
