‘Star Wars’ Creator George Lucas to Build Housing Project in Wealthy California Community
Lucas will pay for 224 homes on his property in Marin County. “We’ve got enough millionaires here,” he says

I personally applaud him for this, but the NIMBY people in his neck of the woods probably want to burn him at the stake.

This will be a tricky dance for the hypocrites in Marin who really don't want poor people around yet want to keep up the facade of being progressive. It's pretty hilarious of Lucas to do this. Instead of being next to a fabulous studio, the NIMBYs next door who blocked that project are going to get low income housing.

Marin already has affordable housing programs for local teachers and public servants. There's nothing wrong with making housing available to working-class people. It's not like he's going to open it up to Section 8's. What he's doing means that more people who work in Marin will be able to afford to live in Marin. Nothing wrong with that. That needs to happen in more parts of the Bay Area.

Lol. Watching the liberal NIMBYs twist and turn will be added bonus.

Marin residents have no problem with the moderate-income housing programs that exist now. This gloating over a fantasy reaction is a bit weird.

There have been plenty of cases in the past of Marin County residents opposing any affordable housing so I'm not sure why you think people are making this up.

This one is particularly one of my favorites as it truly exemplifies the stereotypical Marin County liberal hypocrisy.

MARIN COUNTY / Habitat for Humanity faces fight in wealthy community - SFGate

They were worried about traffic and parking congestion from FOUR HOMES. The best part is that some of the people opposed to the development actually support and in some cases have participated in the charity.

Most people wouldn't be happy their billionaire neighbor is devaluing their house by 50-100k for some unproven political ideology.

Not every marin resident is a billionaire like George Lucas.

That's because so-called progressives adore affordable housing so long as it is provided away from where they live. I stand in open opposition to subsidized housing for countless reasons, including, most notably, that subsidized housing adds to the housing shortage and keeps prices artificially high. My liberal friends also privately acknowledge they'd leave their areas if such housing came to their areas. They do, however, support it strongly for more working class areas, away from themselves.
