Castro is still the epitome of gay culture in the city, but since it is so well known now it has been developed and revamped a bit to become "straighter" to accustom the tourist crowd a little more. Gays still hang out there a lot, including the out of town ones, but it is no longer where all the secret spots and the fanciest actions are going on. Just look at the pride and the Pink Saturday over the last weekend. Both of which are evidently more polished and family friendly nowadays.

Pride DC is the same. Now its sponsorships and family friendly .....not a bad thing I guess.

I'm familiar with both and Dupont is not really gay anymore and frankly, it doesn't matter since I question the need for such areas anymore. The Castro seems a tiny bit tacky to me and what remains of it, is a throwback.
