so heres some info about me
-24 yo, working in SF downtown (civic center)
- 110k yearly salary in a tech company
- married no kids, husband has no income for now
- we have a car - no street parking anymore!
- no pets
- i love walking and nature
- commute no longer than 30 mins

We were thinking of a studio or a 1bed apartment. Maybe in the eastbay. My husband was thinking of Lafayette, not very far. But how much are we looking to spend? Would my salary allow it?

Suggestions are very welcome!
Thank you

You can definitely live fairly well space-wise as a single person on 110k, and get a 1 bedroom apartment, and have a +1. Re: commute, 30 minutes door-to-door is not easy to do in the Bay Area, transit is not extensive or fast enough. You'll probably need to lose that requirement; you could not get 30 mins door to door from Lafayette.

Look on sfbay.craigslist.org for apartment listings. Use maps.google.com and use the directions feature to find commute times. Use bart.gov to find bart timing and schedules. East Bay is a good choice for you, and given your salary you can choose many different places.

If you can be satisfied with the options of the first leg of the commute (getting from home to Bart station) you might like Berkeley or Oakland hills or near-hills. Note that anyplace other than Berkeley or Oakland will be very suburban. Lafayette or Walnut Creek would work well.

North Berkeley, El Cerrito, Albany, Walnut Creek. You should be able to get a 1-br. You might be able to find a 1-br. a few blocks north of University Ave., just off Shattuck Ave, which is a good area, gourmet ghetto. Or in the Solano Ave. area, which is near El Cerrito BART. If you like cooler weather, stick with the inner east bay. If you don't mind heat, look in Walnut Creek.
