Incorrect.

He can say "I prefer the countryside in Japan" but FAILS when he adds "because its closer than driving from SF to SJ".

1. Who drives to SJ specifically for countryside.

and

2. SF has open space and 'countryside' in abundance far closer than having to drive to San Jose.

Anything else?

That's not all they said nor was it all you argued against, you're cherrypicking at this point and leaving out all the other subjective stuff you argued about. You got upset my the mere fact they prefer the scenery and all the things there is to do in Tokyo and argued against it.

Since you seem to have a selective memory, here is what you said

And 'plenty to do' in Tokyo sounds largely homogeneous whereas here, there is more diversity on the 14 Mission bus than all of Japan.

Nope.

I stated my opinion. He made an incorrect statement that is not a matter of opinion. In fact, San Jose is NOT the closest one need go to in order to find countryside from San Francisco.

Anything else?

Your understanding of the history of anti-heterosexuality is mistaken. Sex was dirty. It was only for procreation, ONLY. It should not be fun, i.e., if you're enjoying it you're doing it wrong, i.e., sinfully, and will be damned to hell. That was the message of authorities.

Historically--and by that I mean both the state and church interest--marriage was about property (i.e., who owns the farm) and cost (i.e., who pays for the "be fruitful and multiply" kids). As Tina Turner said, "What's love got to do with it?" The historical answer of authorities echoes Edwin Starr: "Absolutely NOTHING!, say it again!"

Love, fun, lust--authorities have shamed all of those possibilities, both inside and outside of marriage, for heteros and non-heteros, for millenia.

I know these facts may be a shock to some who think bay area gays and lesbians were the first to reclaim sexual freedom, so, here's some web-based and paper-based reading to document the points above:

1)The Ancient Roots of Judeo-Christian Sexual Prohibitions

2)Brundage, James (1987). Law, Sex, and Christian Society in Medieval Europe. Chicago: University of Chicago. ISBN 978-0-226-07784-0.

Have fun!

I looked up the property taxes on the first house listed in NY earlier in the thread, which is selling for $446k, I think. Property taxes were over $14,000/year.

Well yes you did point out how there is closer nature to SF. Perhaps I misunderstood in that you thought you were "destroying" the opinion that a place like Tokyo has better food, scenery, transportation, more things to do, etc.. Glad we can agree that you didn't at all

Darling, no need to apologize for the conversation being over your head. Next time I'll speak in simpler terms so you can keep up.
