Believe me, traffic is awful in L.A. as well and it's getting worse. There are simply too many people living in California.

Most areas outside of the the west do not say "at least we are not LA". No one in Chicago, Boston, NY, Tampa says that. Even 10 years ago the bay area was a solid #2 in the country for traffic...according to your link.

Trust me, no one in LA now goes "at least we aren't DC". No one in LA cares that DC traffic is now the worst. Because that doesn't change the fact that traffic still sucks.

You never hear people in NYC go "at least were are not LA" when it comes to traffic. It doesn't make them feel better.

But for some odd reason people in the bay area say "at least we are not LA", as if that is supposed to some how make the crappy traffic bearable. It reeks of the classic bay area inferiority complex.

Smaller mid sized metros like Sac,SD, and Portland actually have some merit to saying it. Because rush hour there is only 4-5 hours a day and people really don't have much to complain about. People in those cities say "At least we are not LA", but they essentially mean "we have it good".
I guess what I kind of meant is no other city has really had the reputation for traffic and has had it be a part of its identity as much as LA has.

Yes SF was #2 the difference between #1 and #2 was very significant, LA was pretty much in a league of its own there
