Possibly...

But, if I had to guess, I think even with benefits most teachers wouldn't get anywhere near that. I, of course, don't know all of the salaries of all teachers in SF, but I know a few teachers (some of whom make above average because they've been there so long), and they struggle to live in the area (mainly can stay because they bought a long time ago, or have a spouse with a good-paying job).

i.e. Teachers do not make, on average, $125k.

Correct. Perhaps a principal or school administrator may make that salary after a decade or more with experience. The information on the SFUSD website is for teacher salaries, only. It appears that with a doctorate, couple of masters (i.e. BA + 60 credits) and working for 28 years in a high needs school teaching in an area that is difficult to fill, a teacher may make in the low 90s.

If I'm not mistaken teachers in SF make around 55k and you earn a bit more with a masters and/or if you work with special needs.

No freaking way do teachers make $125k unless they've been teaching 25+ years

A good friend of mine is a HS teacher in SF and she has to bartend on the weekends and work odd jobs during the summers and holidays. She also lives in a 4 BR flat. She's young (24), but she's getting tired of it and is ready to relocate to somewhere she can afford to live.

I joined the profession in 2011 and at that time it was impossible to find openings in SF or wealthy suburbs. The last few summers I've seen these positions available, in large part due to declining teacher program enrollment.

In 2009, 1,977 people signed up to take the CSET for Mathematics (the test you must pass to be a CA math teacher). In 2013, that number was down to 482, with only 247 passing the test.

The shortage will be addressed by either A) Increasing salaries for teachers to compete with other professions or B) Lowering the standards for people to enter the profession.

The Bay Area is in deep trouble for recruiting new teachers due to the cost of living.

If you earn a Masters you can teach community college and it looks like they pay:

Initial placement with a Master’s Degree can range from $65,268 up to $81,900 per year; and a Ph.D. can range from $74,784 to $87,420 per year.

Maybe $70K now for a teacher's salary but I'll bet you'd have to be a principle or university prof to make 125K!
I am certain that principles never make 125K, although principals certainly do.
