It's a 5 minute walk from the Caltrain station according to Google Maps - near 3rd and King. Good point - that would be totally doable as a commute.

The East Bay is a good alternative if you can't find a place.
It might make sense to live in SoMa as well although you'd be in dorm configuration rather than a private room. Back when I did a summer internship I split a studio with another intern. The internship coordinator actually arranged the housing although we were free to find our own. That was back then so more affordable but even then the studio in the 'Loin was $1,500/mo. Salary was a little weird. It was $600/week base salary plus $22.5/hr over 40 hours a week. They made this big deal about how they discouraged overtime and then, yeah, they didn't do that. At all. Not many people worked less than 50 hours a week, and some people were doing around 70-80. Weird experience. If you did a lot of overtime you actually got to do things. If you didn't, you just made copies and took sandwich/coffee orders. Culture really varies. I have family I could have stayed with who was living in San Leandro but given that my actual hours were 8 to 8 M-F and half days maybe every other Saturday I'm very glad I didn't do that. Don't necessarily expect and count on the overtime, but also don't be surprised if it's de facto required no matter what they tell you.
