You know who destroyed the Bay Area? Nimby's who refused to build housing near job centers.

Why not move the job center to Detroit? There's a nearly infinite supply of land there. The hipsters and techies can have all the "cool bars" they want.

I'm assuming you are low income. You realize that this would hurt YOU as a service oriented employee the most? Be careful what you wish for... The rich will always be ok. I think you are advocating against yourself. BTW, no skin off my back. I'm just trying to help you.

I'm not a service level employee. I make the median household income by myself but that's still considered poverty in the Bay Area. I work for the government so my pay would be unaffected by such an event.

Which techies are the problem. Bill Gates? Steve Jobs? Amdahl? Fairchild? NASA Ames?

The Bay Area stopped building housing in the 80s while the economy kept growing.

And tech companies aren't moving because there are good universities, venture capitalists and an endless pool of qualified workers.

One day those qualified workers will take an Algebra class and do the math: Live in a studio apartment for 5000 a month OR live on an acre with 3000 square feet for 1000-2000....... hmmmmm such a hard choice.

You do realize that the government will and does cut back too? I don't think you have thought this out thoroughly. I assume you know where the government gets revenue. You are advocating cutting off that revenue and thinking that you are in a cush government job that is not affected by the economy. I'd rethink my outlook if I were you. Good luck!

By techies, he means people in the high tech world who were brought here by a high tech job.
There are good universities all over the country - especially in the sciences. Look at the east coast with MIT, GA Tech, VA Tech, Princeton, Rutgers, etc. Look at the midwest with U Michigan, Ohio State, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin. Texas has excellent universities that also pump out a lot of engineers. There are qualified workers everywhere and they get relocated to CA to work because that's where the best jobs are. A job brought me to this area, too. I am wondering why companies won't open hubs in these other areas of the country where there are good schools as well? They wouldn't have to relocate so many people to California. It makes no sense to keep bringing people to CA, driving the cost of living up higher and higher to a place that has a severe water shortage and overcrowded population problem.

My job is in the constitution. I HAVE to do my duties. I also live at home with two pensioneers. I have both the strength of government job security and extremely secure payments. It would take a shtf scenario on the scale of a nuclear war to crack our household.
