Of course they do. Everything you do is controlled and restricted by social / governmental systems.

Embellish much? That's funny. I took a walk this morning. Don't recall anyone telling me where to walk, what path to take, etc. I decided where I wanted to eat. I could go on, but there are certain fundamental liberties we all have. Did anyone determine what school I went to? Did they determine what I would study, where I would interview, how hard I would work, etc. The government taxes me but do I have some control on how much I pay? Of course I do. Problem is, people like you want to reduce things to the ridiculous. Half the things on your list I've never used. My comment can stand on its merit "I try not to rely on government on how to run my life". Did I say I never use a government service? Hmmm....nope, didn't say that. But I'm not going to sit there and blame them for decisions I make that are totally within my control (and as stated, my success or my failure). But please continue you on with the Elizabeth Warren nonsense.....Yes, yes, I know...I didn't build that (but when tax money goes to maintaining those roads, who pays for that?....oh right, but taxpayers had nothing to do with it). And do let me know when the government starts telling me when to eat, when to sleep, when to go to the bathroom, who I can work for, what I can buy, etc., and I'll be happy to entertain this silliness. Otherwise you're wasting your time (and mine) with this nonsense

Sounds like hypocrisy to me. No disdain here. I don't dwell on other successes or misfortune. I find it's a good way to have a gracious and meaningful life. Envy is not a good way to go through life.

No. I'm not embellishing a bit. Where you walk and eat, what school you go to, what you study there, and everything else you do is dictated by the options that society makes available to you. Simple as that, hoss. And whether you have any direct, one on one contact with a particular government service, or not, is not the only measure of your benefiting from them. If you never have a fire in your residence, or never needed the police to stop an assault upon your person, you are one of many fortunate people - who, like yourself, benefit from your city not burning down around you by virture of fires nearby being extinguished before they spread to your home - who benefit from not having roving bands of murderous thieves slashing your throat for your wallets. You benefit from the CDC quickly identifying the sources of infectious outbreaks that never make it to you. You walk on municipal sidewalks and through parks "of your choosing" because they are made available for your use. That educational options exist widely for all is a function of government.

Much of what you ramble on about is barely coherent, and frequently self-contradictory babble. You are very odd. Sav858 was right about addressing each point and you just dodging and rambling.

As to me and Elizabeth Warren: heh. Are you able to grasp that she might have made a very correct and salient point - and that agreeing with a correct observation does not constitute necessarily being a supporter? I also agree with a couple things Donald Trump has said - for example his position on GW Bush's bearing, as POTUS, at least partial responsibility for 9/11. Yet I consider Trump one of history's greatest arseholes. Are Warren and Trump at all similar? How can I agree with both on individual points? Does any agreement automatically assign me to a respective ideology?

I am not a democrat. Not a republican. Not a libertarian. Not a Catholic, a Jew, a Hindu. Not a socialist. Not a fascist. I don't belong to Rotary or the Masonic Order. As far as I am concerned ideologies of any kind are a poor excuse for a weak intellect.

i.e. January: House is worth $750k. February: value and price falls to $10k. Buy it. March: goes back on market for $750k. Sell and cha-ching.....pocket $740k cool hard cash. Buy a new car or five, take a round the world vacation.....then rinse....repeat.

Or same scenario but they actually want to live 'there'. So they get 'theirs' and then sit and laugh as everyone else wails on about being 'priced out'. It's a close relative of NIMBY and 'drawbridge' mentality.

Sure thing hoss. Continue with your ridiculous rant (but no real retort to my comment). Nope, sorry. No one controlled any of those things I mentioned but me, myself, and I no matter how much you want to spin your nonsense. If you think we have no freedom here, I encourage you to move to Russia so you can get a real taste of it.

And by all means continue with your political ramblings. Did Bush kill JFK also? It's amazing the people one encounters on the internet. And of course, the best part is how you're the man without a country, no political affiliations, no religion, no nothing (isn't that convenient). Makes it easy to complain about everything. I prefer to deal with people with convictions. I think I've wasted enough time with you now. I'm going to choose to sign off on the internet now. And hey, look Ma, no hands. The government didn't tell me I had to do , I just did it on my own. Imagine that. Freedom.

You are quite the controversial poster here, bodyforlife99. Now please stop picking fights/stirring drama with others every single chance you get.

Yes, yes, likealady. I will make sure I go to the "group think" class and march in lockstep with the sheep. And when I hear people scream that the tech industry caused all their problems (because after all, more tax revenue and a 3.2% unemployment is really a problem), I will say "yes, you are right". And then when I hear people scream "if only the government would build more housing" as their remedial solution to their imaginary problem (which would solve nothing), I will bow down and say, "yes, you are right". I will also make sure to realize that I have no free will of my own in anything I do. The government determines everything (all the way down to what underwear I'll wear this morning).

Oh the drama. If only people would stop using logic and just believe everything they are told. Life would be so much better. I'll run along now and go read the Chronicle so I can better understand how I should think.

P.S. I have lots of fun with people on the "retirement" forum. Unlike this forum, there is quite a bit of civility over there. I've had private messages sent to me actually thanking me for putting some of the "bullies" here in their place (and I'm more than happy to oblige). The first day I read some of the posts on this forum, I noticed there were a select group of posters that liked to tag team others if they didn't agree with everything they preached. A pretty sad existence if you ask me, but I'm more than happy to engage in a sword fight with them. Most of them have very little logic and immediately resort to Ad Hominems when they can't defend their flawed thinking. If you haven't noticed, I actually enjoy it. The "life's so hard" nonsense and "no one ever experienced what I did" is pretty childish and I don't have a lot of patience for it. Nor do I have a lot of patience with people that constantly want to discourage others and demean them with their snarky comments. If people want to be civil, I'll be civil. If not, I'll give it right back to them with both barrels. It's really up to them.
