Anyone care to comment about the City of Berkeley's position regarding the US Marines?

Thanks...

Ah, Berkeley City Council: boldly going where no city council has gone before....and really there's a reason for that!
Not suprising in the least though.

They are entitled to their opinion. I personally am not bothered by it although didnt they put out a statement rescinding their request that the Marines not recruit there anymore?

Look,
Berkeley is a very intellectual(in a cosmic sorta way) place. People there are different and their viewpoints are rarely in line with the majority, usually because they are a bit ahead of their time imo. Many in Berkeley view Nancy Pelosi as too conservative and Dianne Feinstein as a NeoCon.

I think its great that we have such a broad array of opinions, I mean there's no reason for us to see eye to eye all the time. Questioning Authority and even Dissent, are both very patriotic in nature.

Not that I disagree with the ideals held by many in Berkeley, but what did the city council honestly expect to accomplish with this? They stopped a day's worth of recruiting, but I'm not sure how many minds they changed. Everything is likely back on course to go the way it would have regardless.

There's a rather large thread on the subject in the politics forum.
