And the OP probably didn't mention it because it's out of their price range.

Depends on how much you'll need to cross the bridge, those tolls can add up. I think I might prefer Pittsburg for access to BART and being able to avoid crossing a bridge for going most places.

Benicia is nice, but Glen Cove while it's in the Vallejo City limits, is adjacent to Benicia and it's hard to tell when you leave the Vallejo City limits and enter Benicia. And there are a number of decent neighborhoods in Vallejo, the worst part about Vallejo is the horrible schools, I would never suggest anyone put their kids in public school there.

They're completely different cities, it really depends on what you value.

Vallejo has considerable history, some beautiful architecture, a fledgling arts scene, and it's significantly more dense. The streets in the core are relatively well-connected, so it's feasible to walk to some places. There's a lovely waterfront area that hosts the bay area pirate festival every year (yarrrr, matey).

Pittsburg has history, too, but almost no surviving architecture to show. No arts scene. The streets are bifurcated by rail lines, highway 4, and poor street design, making walking impractical. The waterfront is home to a power plant and Dow Chemical. It gets extremely hot in summer. The main advantage is that there is newer housing stock, so you'd probably be getting a better home for your dollar.

Give me Vallejo any day (I voted Pittsburg by mistake).

Why mention a city that the OP never mentioned to begin with? If the OP could afford other places, this thread would cease to exist. The OP wanted to know about Pittsburg & Vallejo.

Pittsburg, as it is close to Bart going to SF/Oakland/Walnut Creek and you don't have to deal with the problem of crossing the bridge all the time.

Because it borders on Vallejo. The OP didn't state his reasons for choosing those cities, didn't give a budget, so I thought I'd mention Benicia, in case he hadn't thought of it. Others here have recommended the border area between Vallejo and Benicia. Seems like not a bad idea, potentially.

They said they were the only semi-affordable cities so it's clear that is why they chose them.

Vallejo if you don't need to commute across a bridge daily. I certainly prefer Vallejo to Pittsburg for some of the reasons outlined by ketch89, but if I needed to commute to SF or the East Bay, I would prefer Pittsburg because it its BART access.
