It's not unprecedented around here, so why not? I think Oakland is prominent enough.

You make a good point, but the population of O-town is quite a bit smaller than San Francisco. It would be like a San Jose-Fremont forum.

East Bay Area forum would be a good idea, get all those San Ramon, Oakland and Emeryville questions out of here.

Nobody asks about South Bay so we can skip that... ;-)

I wasn't using equality of these two as the comparison. I just noticed there were "Reno-Sparks" and "Springfield-Branson." I figured Oakland is more prominent than many cities named in various forums.

Yeah, we're off on an island.

I actually agree with you, and have thought it should be simply "Bay Area" (and/or East Bay, South Bay, etc.)... I've mentioned it previously to senior moderators, and they had their reasons for keeping it this way. But maybe I'll ask again, now that it's becoming a fairly busy forum - will let you know what they say.

Silicon Valley and San Francisco-Oakland would be fine I think.

That sounds logical to me... but then we'll get people from the North Bay & North Peninsula complaining, since they don't fit into either - LOL. Since working in Napa, I've been corrected when I say "I don't live here, I'm in the BAY AREA," since they consider themselves to be the BA as well. Okay, whatever!

Silicon Valley is not the actual name! That's like renaming this to "Baghdad by the Bay."

Have it as Bay Area. Period! I want to read whats cool in San Jose, SF, Oakland etc. Not difficult to get from East Bay to South Bay to Peninsula to North Bay. Check out how craigslist have classified SF Bay Area.
