I'm noticing an exceptional amount of whining lately so let's just cut to the chase. How much do you feel would be the "fair share" you should have to pay for a home?

That can't be answered out of context. What percentage of Ho,Es in San Francisco should be affordable for people with the median income is a better one. I believe the current number is 15%. The problem is that here, you need to go 60 miles out to find a place where more than 50% of homes are affordable to pole with San Francisco's median income.

None of the above... Whatever the market dictates at the time.

However, I'd say a 1,500 sqft property should cost around $500,000 for it to be worth it in San Francisco.

Your question and post misses the main premise of all the complaints: the "market" in SF isn't a free market at all. It's dysfunctional and distorted by major supply restrictions.

Ppl aren't asking for a price that's "fair"; they're asking for a price that is consonant with an actual, functioning free market -- or something much closer to a free market like you find in most other cities -- that doesn't have supply (i.e., half of the supply/demand equation) artificially capped

If SF was building 0.5 housing units for every new resident (the least it should be doing) rather than less than 0.2 (see http://sf.curbed.com/2015/2/4/999538...-housing-stock), housing and rent prices would be far lower

You can get a two bedroom condo or apartment on the median income -- middle class income -- of 100k in Silicon Valley. That's middle class housing in the Bay Area.
