The breadth of their sense of entitlement to taxpayer funding, is disturbing and disgusting.

“Not to be difficult, but we’re not negotiable,” said Sands President Rob Goldstein, who spoke on behalf of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his family. “If we can’t get 750, we respectfully thank you but we’re going to move on.”

Oh, don't get me started on this. Publicly financed stadiums for multimillionaires and billionaires who own for-profit sports teams are my bete noire. Awful!

The Bay Area used to be great in terms of football. Those were the days.

That is incorrect.

The Raiders are kicking in $500 million. A half a billion dollars is not chump change.
Sheldon Adelson is kicking in $650 million.

So private funding is way more than half the total

The $750 million is from Vegas hotel taxes, which means state and local taxpayers aren't paying, but out-of-state tourists are. That makes it palatable to state legislators, who also think the estimated $2 more per might on a hotel bill won't hurt the tourist business.

All in all it's very elegant financing IMO. But I think Nevada could put $750 million to much better use. It's public schools, for instance, are generally considered third-rate.

Oakland is becoming a suburb for SF commuters.

Raiders and Warriors are wise to leave for greener pastures. It's too bad the A's have to stay there. The east bay sports market is just awful.

Will they still call them the "Oakland" Raiders? The "San Francisco" 49ers aren't in San Francisco but still keep the name. The "New York" Giants are in New Jersey so there is no reason to change the name. Who really gives a crap about a billionaire owner and a bunch of overpaid delinquents getting paid millions to run with a ball and sell beer and sneakers.

Those teams are still in the same metro area and media market though, not the same thing at all.
