Please advise. Nice areas to begin apartment searches (cities or districts?). Will be traveling to different client sites daily/weekly and need to be centrally located, very safe, 4 stars, affordable - but not to compromise the other needs. Looking for quaint, small town feel in big city.

Any help with Apartments would be additionally helpful. Hoping to find location with or near a dog sitter. Fabulous if apartment complex has a dog sitting service. (Too much to hope for?)

What should I expect in the "process" of getting an apt?

Other things I should be asking?

Many thanks in advance.

Many of the Avalon complexes offer dog-sitting, and I think Lands End in Pacifica does too - I remember they said this when I was looking for an apartment! Here's some info on the Avalon apartments: North California Apartments - Avalon Communities (http://www.avaloncommunities.com/regions.asp?id=23&parent=0 - broken link)

I looked at this community in Daly City - Daly City Apartment Floorplans - Avalon at Cedar Ridge - and thought it was quite nice... very centrally located, since you can hop on 280 or 101 in a minute, which will take you everywhere. Only thing that worried me was airplane noise, since it's right in the flight-path, but I didn't hear anything when I visited. I don't know if Daly City has a "small-town" feel, though, so maybe another area would be better for you... possibly Burlingame, Foster City, San Mateo, Brisbane, or somewhere in Marin County or East Bay. Will you be visiting clients ALL over, or mostly in certain parts of the Bay Area (Peninsula, the city, East Bay, etc.)? Oh, and what's your price range?

P.S. I happen to work for a very reputable pet-sitting service, which I'd be happy to recommend... via DM, so I don't get in trouble for advertising myself.

Talking about dogsitting..Does anyone know how to get into that? Do you need training for it? How would you get work? Just placing adds in grocery stores and such? I'd be very interested in taking care of people's pets once I live there...
