Hello,

I'm looking into moving to Redwood City, the area right south of El Camino and west of Woodside Road, so pretty much left of the crossing.

Looking at the neighborhood, it seems pretty fine to me overall. The only thing I'm (always) a bit concerned is my car. I drive a nice sports car (it's a hobby), and I'm wondering whether it would attract the wrong kind of attention. The car would be garaged when not in use so I'm not too worried about vandalism or theft, but I wonder if it would cause people to resent me, or even provoke burglaries because people think that there would be more valuable things in the home.

I don't want to appear classicist, this car is really my hobby and I saved up a while for it, but I sometimes worry about giving off the wrong impression.

the prospective landlord immediately commented how "this would be the nicest car in the neighborhood" and I'm not sure how to take that comment. He also said petty theft is somewhat of a possibility, but I don't care about that...

I appreciate any advice about the area!

You'll be fine. There's a lot of wealth on the peninsula. However, if you happen to need to go to East Palo Alto, or the part of Menlo Park that borders EPA, you shouldn't use that car.

What kind of car are we talking here? Nice sports car could mean a new Miata or a 488 GTB.

It's a modern Porsche. So no Ferrari, and nothing that you wouldn't see all the time driving on 280, but still more eye-catching between normal commuter cars than a Miata.

I have a blacked out Porsche Cayman S, so I get your concern...but unless you're driving something exotic or neon, no one really cares.

Do I have anxiety about driving in sh*tty areas? Sure. The only incident I've ever had was a teenager jumped on the hood for a selfie. Although gut wrenching, it wasn't a break-in and buffed out. If I were you I'd assure your comprehensive insurance covers vandalism and sleep soundly at night.
