Hi All,

I'm moving to the east bay and was planning on using the BART to commute to Pleasanton from Oakland, San Leandro, or Hayward but the news about the robbery has me a little hesitant now. What are your thoughts on BART safety? THanks!

There is always some risk when using public transit, you get mixed in with all the weirdos. However, the odds of being a victim of crime is quite low, so I wouldn't worry about it. You can always keep a pocket taser if you are worried (I think).

Oh yeah! Just learn how to re-load that "pocket taser" [sic] quickly & carry a lot of cartridges for it, because the "robbery" in-question (I assume it's the one you mean, hard to tell though because there are so many) was a horde of bored savages swarming the train cars assaulting & strong-arm robbing people!

But sure, your odds of being a victim are low -- only because there are so many victims for the savages to chose from.

My thoughts are that those youths were doing a copycat of (bad type of) flashmobbing that happens in the Eastern US. Overall crime stats on BART are headed in the right direction and that incident will mean even more tightening of security.
