They easily could have planned early and saved up more in their youth or waited to have family. I literally showed you how I would have had 17.1k in 1958.

I can't even afford to buy in Hayward the ****tiest and cheapest city with in commuting distance. Things are grim for me and I'm in the top 10% of millennials.

Keep saving as hard as you can and wait for the drop. Stay out of debt. Maximize income and minimize expenses. Then jump in when the market inevitably drops -- and it will.

Doesn't seem likely, I just try my best to oppress the disappointment I have in life about the fact I'll never be a homeowner. My game plan is living at home into my 50s at this point

No, you will. If you are this determined at 25, you will persevere. I guarantee it. How many 25 year-olds are even that concerned. Your having saved furiously until now is telling. I know plenty of millennials who are older than you, and believe me, they seem unconcerned about buying a home. T They eat out incessantly and spend money on vacations.

By the way, offering these seniors so-called affordable housing just exacerbates the housing problem in the Bay Area. It artificially increases demand.

You mean this?

If I was their age with an inflation adjusted net worth it would be about 17,174 in 1958. A brand new ranch home would be 10k new. I could literally buy 2 of them with a 50% downpayment. They had literally no excuse.
You are 25 and you have 145k and we are supposed to believe you saved that on a 58k salary? Ok if that's the case you lived with mom for several years, or you didn't really save it, you inherited it, because otherwise it's just not possible.

I already provided data for you to show how long it would take a median income family in 1950 to save for a down payment but you ignore that and 'adjust your 145k for inflation' and claim that proves something?

I spend about 10 dollars a month. Other people have the option to live frugally and make living arrangements with family (it was also very socially acceptable back then even more so than now). What I did isn't even that impressive. 146k is a bar tip these days.

Don't listen to commenters who live out in the sticks where housing is abominably cheap. Housing is very expensive where you are, and it will remain so.

There is nothing embarrassing about living with your parent/s and saving money. The stigma, if any, is dumb and based on misunderstanding how much more expensive housing is now as compared to decades ago, even when accounting for inflation.

Heh, sometimes I tell them I wish they lived in la, Orange County, or San Diego because I feel I'd be much closer to home ownership than I am here since houses are about half the price.
