Hello everyone,

I would like to know some schools that would employ people from overseas around San Francisco.

I am a native French speaker (born and Grew up in France) but currently live in Australia...
I work in a High school here teaching French and Italian...
I would like to go to San Francisco to teach French for a whole year or so for professional development....The only problem is that apparently, to be able to work in the USA you need to find an employer willing to sponsor you...and not being in the country does not make things any easier...

Can anyone help me with that in giving me information?
I really hope so...

Try contacting the Alliance Francaise, they may have listings and leads for you as well as direct opportunities.

Bienvenue à l'Alliance

Hello Northern California,
Thank you for your reply...it's very nice...
In fact I did contact them and they told me that they employ French teachers but they do not sponsor.
They just told me that if I have a working visa they encourage me to apply, however, it is not easy to get a working visa in the USA...
Hope I'll find something...it would be nice....

There are several quality international Au Pair organizations in SF with a ton of leads and that is a great way to get a working visa. I'm sure there are plenty of Bay Area parents who would hire a French/Italian speaker to hang out with their kids a few hours a week. Not exactly what you posted about but certainly a way in the door.

You might find a private school or individual that would consider you. However our school systems are financially strapped and laying off many teachers. Last hired, first fired.

Hi Alisande,
Thanks for your reply...but what do you mean ?
I would want to have an experience of 1 year...I can try individual schools but I don't know any..not easy when far away from the US....
You don't seem optimistic about it...

I doubt the OP is still on these boards, the posting is almost 2 years old.

As for teaching in the US, the chances are not great as most states are either laying off teachers or certainly not hiring new ones. Maybe someone else will have a suggestion for you.

Hi There,

I am still looking for a job there. I am not really looking to work there permanently as it's very difficult to get a visa in America, I just want an experience there, might be different to teacher in America for a year or 2. I don't know which school I should apply to...
