Hello All,

I can really use some help. I am from NY and relocating for work in Hayward, CA. I am having a very difficult time with finding an apartment. Is it possible to rent an apartment in CA for no more then 1,400?? Please any help/advice is greatly appreciated. I leave in 3 weeks and need an apartment ASAP!

As long as you are open to roommates or are open to dangerous neighborhoods, you should be able to find something? If you like your own place and prefer safe neighborhoods, sorry, you are pretty much SOL.

Find roommates or go further out from the Bay Area. Antioch & Tracy might have something for $1400

If you are relocating for work and can only afford $1,400 a month for rent, don't do it. Why uproot your life to live in near-poverty on the other side of the country?

You can't find an apt. in the general vicinity of Hayward for your price point, OP. $1500 will get you a bedroom with private bath, and with luck--a separate entrance. I hope your new job has growth potential for you, because as others say, it wouldn't be worth moving out to the Bay Area for that pay, unless you could do some serious career climbing. Sounds like you're moving to CA just for the sake of moving to CA, which isn't a good reason, unless there's the promise of better pay sooner or later, preferably--sooner.

If you don't mind commuting, you will have to look in Tracy, CA with your budget. There are people who live in Tracy and commute to Hayward. It's about an hour each way. You can also drive from Tracy to Livermore or Pleasanton/Dublin and take the bart into Hayward from there.

It would be easiest to start out in an Extended Stay hotel type arrangement. If you stay in one for 30 days, you don't have to pay the luxury tax. This is what I've done. Then, you can look for a place after you get here.

You should be able to find something. You just might have to commute.
