$150K may be a typical salary in tech, but the overall package tends to be significantly higher, esp with options and RSUs. That's one key difference between jobs in tech and other businesses.

Most people in tech work at companies without RSUs or where the options are worthless. And not every job pays that much.

Left behind because I'm not in the tech industry? I LEFT the tech industry. I left it behind to do something different.

People in tech are over worked, stressed out, one-dimensional, and boring -- with exceptions, of course. I hated it there.

BTW, it's a myth that all techies are rich. Those days are over. Startup deals are structured now so that the VCs get most the money in a sale of IPO.

Tech isn't even the "main industry", though, either.

Yup! No one who isn't the founder is going to do well. The employees just get the scraps!

Of the people I know in tech (and I personally worked for a tech startup), most people in the industry are seriously out of touch. They think their frivolous little job is saving lives or something. So no, I don't care, and I would actually prefer to see more diversity as far as job industries here.

I'm glad I don't work in tech. I have a lot more control over my own schedule and personal goals, and my career isn't fixated just on making people above me tons of money.
