I make roughly 19 an hour with chance of overtime and extra shifts and would eventually have a second income . Would I be able to live in San Francisco ?

I find it hard to believe that you can't live anywhere in a city or suburb of a city .

That's $39,500 annual salary. No, you will not be able to live in San Francisco. You might be able to live in the far outer East Bay (e.g. Antioch), but even then it would be a pretty crummy apartment.

You'll need room mates.

There are lots of people with your income living in the city... You just rent a room. It's 100% normal. You can rent a room in the Sunset for less than $1000/mo.

Yes, you can. With roommates. It's not ideal, but as long you live within a certain expected lifestyle it is actually very doable. Don't expect to live alone, or to live a middle class lifestyle though. I know a lot of people making less than you who live comfortably in the city (outer sunset).

If you go in with certain realistic expectations, and live within your means (gasp! That is still a thing in this country?!?!), it is absolutely possible.

I actually challenged myself awhile back to live on minimum wage for a couple months, and was able to do it easily. Until I started dating someone, then I had to give myself a small raise.
Of course, I live a much more modest lifestyle than is considered acceptable by local standards.
