Definitely on my list of places to check out. Kudos to its chefs for taking a cuisine I love to the next level.

Amusingly, their website only shows $$$, not $$$$. Are they trying to compare themselves to the French Laundry or something? Sheesh.

Also, "fine dining" and "Mexican" are mutually exclusive terms. It'll be a cold day in TJ before I ever step foot in that place.

No this is Business Insider's story on the Michelin Star Awards for 2018. This is the most prestigious restaurant rating guide in the world.

Californios has earned 2 Michelin stars, which puts it among the world's elite fine dining establishments.

I actually am eager to experience their take on a cuisine so prevalent in the US that we all know exactly what its supposed to taste like, only know sophisticated cooking techniques are applied.

Just like Aina, the Hawaiian place in SF absolutely exalts the Hawaiian plate lunch to stunning heights-received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, meaning an excellent meal for under $40.

Another blip on the story...

$157 for some Mexican dog food? I’ll take my Mexican cravings elsewhere for $20.

I must admit I'm more of a fancy steakhouse person if I'm going to splurge on dining out, but I'm not at all surprised a place in SF won such an award. I certainly had the best "regular" Mexican food I've eaten while in town a couple of months back .

I don't understand why people always have to associate Mexican food (or Chinese, for that matter) with always having to be cheap.

There's a "fine dining" scene for all types of cuisine nowadays and that's totally alright by me. Nobody HAS to splurge, but for those that are celebrating a special occasion or on vacation then why not if you can afford to?

I personally love both, the $7 burrito, all you can eat Indian buffet AND the occasional fine dining experience (where I can actually show up wearing my nice clothes and shoes). There are some wonderful restaurants at ALL price points, and thankfully we live in a region where we can actually have that option!
