I am traveling to San Francisco to visit family and thought I'd Uber from the Airport to their house in Daly City. I've never used Uber - though several people I work with here in Charlotte use it regularly. Is that a good option? I guess what I'm asking is- is it safe? I don't want to sound paranoid - I feel it is a good option, but would feel better asking.

It's very safe, no different than using a taxi company or shuttle company in my opinion. It's safer than using public transportation as well.

If you want to save even more money, use UBER POOL, basically you might share the car with another passenger, so you might have to first drop them off before going to your destination. This route is cheaper than even being stuck in a shuttle with a ton of people. When you open the Uber App, you'll see like UBER POOL, UBER X, UBER SELECT...

Uber Pool, is the cheapest because you might share the car with someone else.
Uber X, is the next cheapest and it will be private, no other customers and still cheaper than a taxi.
Uber Select, is the fancy car option.

---

I used to use Super Shuttle before ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft... but my last time with them was horrible. It ended up taking 4 hours before I got home because the driver didn't calculate the time or whatever properly, by the time he dropped off the remaining passenger, he was already late for another airport pick up, so he said I have to go to the airport to pick up those passengers, I was furious... I actually think I posted a thread about it on city-data because I was so pissed at the time. Anyways, no need for super shuttle these days with Uber and Lyft.

If you're by yourself, why not take BART? Potentially cheaper.

Was thinking Uber would be direct to their house.... not sure if my niece will be working that day or not. possibility they'd pick me up - just checking all possibilities.

I'd just do Uber X or if you are on a tight budget Uber Pool. I hate taking BART with luggage and it sounds like you are super new to SF and alternative transportation, so trying to figure out BART with your luggage after a flight isn't worth saving a couple dollars and that's only if your niece lives by a station.

Get a regular cab, it costs about $25 to $30 from sfo to Daly City. Regarding Bart to Daly City that would be OK, if you have a ride from there, or can walk to her house, the Bart station is on some bus lines, but for a first time visitor, why make the hassle?

I've never used Uber, either, and have another question: When sharing an Uber Pool from the airport with random strangers, how does payment work? Does the person who gets dropped off first pay part of the meter plus tip? Do they pay the other passenger or the driver? Sorry to be so ignorant. I'm not even sure if Uber cars have meters.

When you enter the destination and pick up locations, it will show you the estimated cost, which is generally always accurate, so it's almost a fixed price. You'll know how much it will cost doing Uber Pool, regardless of if you get dropped off first or vice versa. It's not like a taxi where you have to worry about which route they take. If your bill is a lot more you can email them and they will refund you.

I don't trust these ride share options. I always spring for a cab.
