Yes, please do. I haven't seen anyone denying that there are issues here, only that living here gives you a wider perspective than a tourist or business traveler would get. They only see the bad stuff.

The welfare man screaming obscenities from his government subsidized housing apartment window or the candid human poop between parked parallel cars give the city character! Nobody is saying these problems don't exist, we are just saying it's like this in every city, even worse in other cities too!

It's not that bad in most other cities. I've been in Fort Worth for 2 weeks, my job requires me to constantly be traveling around the city I have yet to see a single homeless person or even much trash.

It's called the Bay Bubble... they live in a bubble and tell themselves, no the rest of the country is no different but if anything it's worse!

But you also don't want to house them in San Francisco. So how would SF ask other cities about "unused municipal spaces"? Would SF pay money towards this goal?

How about the Farallon Islands? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farallon_Islands

Weird because the only person in this thread who even remotely suggested that other cities aren’t any different isn’t even from the Bay Area. You guys are seriously delusional.

This thread is just going in circles now, but here's the reality:

1. SF has a serious problem with garbage, homelessness, crime, public drug/alcohol intoxication, etc. While these issues are absolutely obvious and are very difficult to ignore in touristy locations since they're highly concentrated in downtown SF (near TL/Civic Center), there are plenty of places in SF where these problems aren't very visible, or are basically absent. It's absolutely ridiculous to claim the ENTIRE city looks like 16th/Mission, the Tenderloin, Civic Center BART, and the really rough parts of SOMA. These are the most glaring cases, but they don't represent the entire city. Enough already.

2. While SF's problems are awful, and in some ways only getting worse, they DO exist in other cities, to varying degrees. San Diego, LA, Seattle, Sacramento, Portland, Austin, Honolulu, and other left-leaning cities all deal with these issues as well. The only city that really seems to have compassionate and effective solutions to house the homeless is Salt Lake City. All of these other cities may do a better job of "hiding" these problems from the touristy areas, but these problems are still there. Tent cities didn't used to be a 'thing' until the last 5-7 years, but they are pretty much all over the country now. If you want a squeaky clean city, you'll like have to deal with much more aggressive policing and little to no diversity.

3. Clearly, SF's approach to dealing with these issues is ineffective, and at some point it's going to take a major toll on tourism and drive away talented people. We haven't hit that tipping point, but it doesn't seem far off.

4. Despite all of these issues, plenty of people manage to go about their day to day lives in SF without these issues affecting them to a great extent. Trying to deny their own perceptions and firsthand experiences with these problems is a fool's errand.
