So they are paying all these people to pick it up but no one really wants to do a number 2 outside in the open they should build some bathrooms.

Or portapotties plumbed into the sewer.
There aren't enough public restrooms, most are kept locked and access is limited to customers or employees. The Ferry building has one of the few public restrooms in the Embarcadero, but on weekends and in the summer there are long lines and security guards chase off the homeless and won't even let them wait in the queue.

Plus with pooping out in the open there's a sense of freedom. It's San Francisco after all. A flower child doesn't want to feel confined.

I think the fact that we sit on multiple fault-lines is a pretty good excuse... I don't know about you, but I'd rather not be 50 stories high in a 7.5 quake! And no offense, but I also wouldn't be looking to China for guidance on structural/building safety.

Not really. The solution (if such a thing were possible) to homelessness starts with mental health and substance abuse programs... of course, the hard part is getting those who need it most to actually USE the services offered. But if you think homelessness is solely due to lack of housing, or even economic hardships, you really don't know much about the topic.

True, SF'ans would rather have sh|t all over the sidewalks than build more housing for the homeless people that are already there

Hi Blake. You live where that makes you an expert on what San Franciscans think and want?

Seriously, people who don't live in San Francisco/Bay Area - do you really think the city can afford to house every homeless person, when people earning $100K can't even buy a condo here? Maybe we should first try to make the housing we DO have more affordable? But since that isn't happening, I doubt you'll be seeing subsidized high-rises popping up anytime soon.

I repeat: It isn't physical homes that (alone) would solve the problem. I just had to do an all-day training on these issues, and if we're talking about the "chronically homeless," they are dealing with matters WAY beyond the lack of a house... so you've gotta give us more than that, like how to cure thousands with severe mental illnesses and/or chemical dependencies.
