It should be noted that this is not a new law. It's only a proposal, and it was put forward by just two of the 11 members of the Board of Supervisors (city council). I'd be really surprised if it got approved.

Really silly. They forget that those companies don't have to stay in SF at all. They may choose to just move to a cheaper location, with better housing for their workers, and without homeless camps in the streets. Sheesh, this idea is so myopic.

And it would apply to new buildings only. So existing company cafeterias wouldn't have to close.

A bit surprising to see Peskin and Safai co-sponsoring it, as they're on opposite sides of the aisle.

If I were on the board, I wouldn't vote for it.

I see you are ignoring California’s sky high cost of living and Silicon Valley’s critical role in the state’s economic growth. California’s GDP drops several places when adjusted for cost of living.

When adjusting for the state’s high cost of living, California’s GDP ranking drops to 11th in the world, according to the California Legislative Analyst’s Office.

So stop parroting fake news.

California’s costly tax and regulatory policies prompted more than 10,000 businesses to leave the state, reduce their operations or curtail plans to locate here between 2008 and 2015.

One can only hope. The Bay Area could stand to have a more diversified economy.

I have worked a couple of jobs (none in California) that had cafeterias, but neither were 'free'. It was certainly cheaper, though, than eating out, and lunches have gotten expensive. And what if the business isn't really in an area with many places to eat???

Venture funded tech companies in San Francisco and some parts of the Peninsula and the South Bay have daily free lunch, sometimes breakfast. And sometimes dinner. Some are catered. The larger companies have a cafeteria and on site kitchen. It’s pretty common to get free lunch.
