Also at the Montclair neighborhood in the Oakland hills has a great playground for small kids, and there are other beautiful parks nearby, for older kids to bike to.
Haven't seen it in Oakland yet (I live in the hills). I can afford the area's you mentioned. Marin County would be too far away from work. I was thinking somewhere in the Pleasanton, Livermore, Danville, Walnut Creek area, but whenever I drive around the neighborhoods in those cities, they seem deserted. Nobody outside. I would prefer that my kids don't need to go with a parent to the park to play with kids, but rather could just go outside in front of the house with other kids who live nearby.

You're driving around those neighborhoods on weekends, and haven't seen kids biking around? Probably some outdoor play is going on in backyards. IDK, OP. Have you raised this question with parents in your neighborhood, or with colleagues who have kids? What age-group of kids did you have in mind? Also wondering why you'd want to move way out to Danville, Livermore, etc. Better home prices? If I had a toe-hold on the Inner east Bay, like you do, you couldn't blast me loose from there.

I'm not attached to Oakland, though the weather is great. I moved this way years ago because I couldn't afford San Francisco or the Peninsula, not because I like the area so much. I grew up in San Francisco and always like the other side of the bay better. At this point I would like to find a better area for my kids. Danville or Livermore would have about the same commute as I have now, so I'm not to worried about moving further inland.

I'm not set on moving further East. If I can find a good area where kids play in front of their homes in the Peninsula or South Bay, I would also move there.

You might enjoy reading the book: [i]Playborhood: Turn Your Neighborhood Into a Place for Play[i], written by a Menlo Park dad interested in the same thing that you are describing.

My stepson and his family just moved to Daly City and they are right next to a park where kids are out playing all day, it's pretty awesome we have far more parks in Sacramento but far fewer kids actually playing in them

A perfect neighborhood where kids play outside is where we live - in Dublin! Dublin is one of the most prestigious, exclusive and expensive places in the entire Bay Area. We moved here 3 years back. You will find a lot of diversity here. Ton of celebrations every month where you will learn about Indian culture, Indian holidays, etc. If you are lucky, an Indian family will befriend you & invite you to celebrate Indian holidays. I cannot tell you what an amazing life we have had since the last 4 years. Agreed, there is no caucasian families in the community where I live, there is only Asians, but hey this is the Bay Area! No matter where you go here you will find this kind of diversity which is what makes it so special!

It's too hot out there. I get plenty of Indian holidays, South Asian farmers' markets, and South Asian diversity AND nice, cool weather, in Fremont. Sorry to hear you couldn't afford it, and had to go out to Dublin. Better luck next lifetime. Pray for a favorable rebirth.

Fremont is the mecca of Indian culture celebration day in and day out, that's great! Yes I agree it does get really hot out here in Dublin. Thank you for your well wishes

When driving through Dublin, I rarely see kids outside. Are there certain area's (West Dublin vs. East Dublin) that have more kids?
