UC admissions are pretty structured/cut & dried - they don't do that - and as a state institution, they're subject to more scrutiny.

In the past i have pointed out how important it is to go to the "right schools" to get desirable jobs in finance (jp morgan, goldman sachs) or tech(google, facebook) or get into good MBA law or med schools etc.

pointing this out makes people very angry but it is true.

that is why these parents spent so much and risked so much because going to the right school can be very important in building careers
not going to the right school can lock you out of certain careers.

Many countries have investment visas, which is public information. That is different than a country that has no investment visas, but instead had a corrupt official who pockets the money himself and not to better the community and forges fake documents, numbers, etc.

You see no difference? But I guess since many of these people are “progressives” it’s better to argue there is no difference.

Well, UCLA and UCD were on the list of schools involved in the bribery scandal, so....

The sneakiness is different, yes. But, the outcome is essentially the same. Call it what you will, but it is a form of bribery.

UCD? What UCD? Davis?? The last time I looked, Davis along with UCSC was among the top easiest schools to get into in the UC system.

Not just UC's. Also saw Wake Forest on the list. The point is that this wasn't just for super-elite schools. Then again, these kids probably didn't even meet the bar academically at these public schools.

Not true anymore. Going through admissions now. A few kids with 4.2/4.3 GPAs, almost perfect SAT score, got denied admission for the fall. I agree Davis should be a helluva a lot easier to get into. The UCs are becoming such a failed system at this point.
