Yeah, thanks for the maps - they don't change how untouchable the Californial west coast is for mainstream America. Unless you don't mind living in a crackerbox maybe. Honestly, San Francisco has no place on this list, anymore than Manhattan or Maui.

COL/value is only one part of the equation - SF ‘earned’ its spot the same way the other cities did.

Um, ok.
I've never been there, but it's where Wal Mart is headquartered, and where the University of Arkansas is. It's a pretty rapidly growing area, and from what I've heard is also a beautiful area.

Never been there either - I wonder where it ranked in terms of desirability alone.

A lot lower than San Francisco, but quality of life was a way higher score than San Francisco. If it wasn't for that enormous cost of living San Fran would be the best. Unless you are rich, living there must really suck - at least there's the bridge if things get too bad, at least till they finish the net.

Suicide and mental health issues have nothing to do with SF ranking 7th overall in Best Places to Live (or 1st in desirability).

Funny thing...I know a guy who manages a multi-million dollar private security company here in Los Angeles.

Among his clients are the Walton Family and their associated Walmart heirs and heiresses who spend most of their time at their homes in Benedict Canyon and Beverly Hills.

The lower-middle class Californians who want to work for corporate and own a sprawling ranch home on the meadow move to Fayetteville. Meanwhile, the billionaire Waltons ostensibly make their residence in Los Angeles County.
seeing what has happened to SF, I'll take Fayettevill, AR over that. Never been to AR there but I bet people are kinder and I bet the value system is a little different from the filth one finds in SF. I've spent half my life in SF. No more SF, no thanks.
