Fayetteville, Arkansas is more desirable than San Francisco? This is why I hate these article ranking things done by people who probably haven't even been to half of these cities lol.

I hear ya, but this is not about 'desirability' but livability, as defined by US News' criteria. Apparently Fayetteville scored 4th.

If you want to work in corporate for the Walton Family, then Fayetteville, AR is your place!

Funny thing...I know a guy who manages a multi-million dollar private security company here in Los Angeles.

Among his clients are the Walton Family and their associated Walmart heirs and heiresses who spend most of their time at their homes in Benedict Canyon and Beverly Hills.

The lower-middle class Californians who want to work for corporate and own a sprawling ranch home on the meadow move to Fayetteville. Meanwhile, the billionaire Waltons ostensibly make their residence in Los Angeles County.

Fayetteville and Des Moines are nice small cities. Roll your eyes all you want. Oh, and I'd definitely rather live in the Twin Cities than San Francisco (and yes, I've been there multiple times in the winter).

Actually it IS about desirability as well as value, job market, and quality of life. SF ranked 4th in desirability, but I’m guessing the category it did poorly in was ‘value’. Still, I’ll take 7th overall!

Also interesting to note - Phoenix didn’t rank in the top 25 (to those who like to dump on SF

What I meant is that it's not only about desirability:

SF scored higher than any other major metro as far as desirability, which the US News ranking determined based on the results of a survey taken by thousands of participants across the country.

Desirability Rating/Metro Area/#Overall Rank
10.0 San Francisco#7
9.6 San Diego#36
9.1 Seattle#9
9.0 New York#90
8.8 Denver#2
8.7 Los Angeles#107
8.2 Phoenix#26
7.1 Washington DC#19
6.9 Dallas#21
6.9 Miami#113
6.8 Atlanta#57
6.8 Chicago#104
6.7 Boston#27
6.6 Tampa#56
6.5 Houston#30
6.5 Minneapolis#6
6.2 Philadelphia#102
6.1 Cleveland#85
6.0 Baltimore#100
5.9 St Louis#81
5.3 Detroit#93

SF also had a higher desirability rating than the city ranked 1st in the overall ranking.

9.0 Austin#1
