Right - the ‘bs online’ of someone named ‘newbiehere’ ridiculously ‘challenging’ people to invite the homeless (and mentally ill) into their homes.

Thats nice of him.

I let someone live with me for 4 years who had no place else to go but my house isn't worth $4M and he wasn't living on the street before he moved in. Tons of people do this sort of thing. I guess there are some angles this story is shooting for though.

Was it someone you knew, like a friend or family? I hope so, because that would be very different from inviting a homeless stranger to live with you for 4 yrs...even if you knew him for a little.

Mental illness is the key factor here.

I knew a couple in San Fernando who befriended a homeless Vet (Gulf War) and let him into their home and things were going well for a little while until he found a "girlfriend" out on the street and would sneak her back to the house during the day while they were at work. They started noticing things coming up missing. When they confronted him, he blamed the female and said he'd stopped seeing her.

There were other weird things that happened as well. I'm not exactly sure of this couple's original intentions? I don't know if they were "swingers" or whatever, and things went south? They never appeared that way, but who knows?

I never got that far into the details. But I do know this: when a line was crossed and they asked their "Guest" to vacate, he left them a surprise in the form of fecal matter all over their bathroom. I mean, all over! ....Toilet, shower, curtains, towels, floor, ceiling.

They had to call some sanitation-type company to come out and do a Hazardous Materials clean up. I can't even imagine how mortifying that must have been??? Then there was the issue of filing a police report, changing the locks, buying security cameras.

Short answer: just don't do it.

An encouraging story, but any future heroes of humanity should follow this decent man's lead and get to fully know who you are dealing with. Just boggles the mind that we can send rockets soaring into deep space, but we cannot resolve the issue of homelessness. There but the grace of G-d goes I, or any of us.

It's because people in power are not willing to let go of their sacred cow ideologies. See Seattle is Dying documentary:
