Why shop at Neiman Marcus when you can shop in the VIP aisle at Tommy Bahama?

Depends. I'd take parts of Marin at NM discount prices, why not? TB has been going downhill lately, anyway. I think they may have switched designers are some point in the last few years, plus, they're using cheaper fabrics, so their VIP aisle isn't what it used to be.

It depends. There are spots on the outskirts (including remote Marin, as Ruth mentions) that are nice but just not a reasonable commute to work. I'd live in those places in a heartbeat if I didn't need to worry about a commute. Then there are more rundown, suburban spots with long commutes that are less appealing. But even many of those have the benefits of weather, open space access, food, etc. And of course plenty of people have reasons to be in the Bay Area like family and work that make trading for a fancier suburb elsewhere undesirable.

I dunno what you are calling the outer Bay BUT....I LOVE Marin County......it's better than Sf IMO but not too far away. You can get more land & breathing space & pretty views from a deck & open air instead of a window. AND there's nothing wrong with the Neiman Marcus semi annual sale...it's the only time I shop there!
