Any possible plans, or business or household systems set up? For example, a significant amount of food spoils, or essential items we can get today become hard to get tomorrow, or there's some sort of glitch in income flow. How to keep access to news and updates if chargers are low? Just examples of a bunch of stuff to try to keep on top of, in addition to the current status of things.

Maybe in the future, people will look for homes in areas served by electrical utility companies that are not PG & E. Like those served by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Del Norte County, served by a utility from Oregon, etc. (Though I'm not expecting Del Norte Co. to suddenly become popular...)

This is ridiculous! No electricity during a national health emergency? Is the US still trying to pass itself off as a First World country? How much longer does it think it can get away with that, when parts of it don't have a reliable utility infrastructure?

We just went thru an "islanding' exercise supposed to insulate us from bad blackouts. Power to come from SoCal.

How would that work? Could you elaborate? Sounds interesting. Speaking as someone considering moving to Humboldt... (no, I haven't visited yet; that was scheduled for April, but...well...you know)

Besides a stocked pantry and whatever you have to constitute an earthquake preparedness kit, buy a crank radio. Mine runs off solar too and has a built-in light. You should also consider a generator. An inverter generator can run sensitive electronics, and one with reasonable wattage can run a fridge. Don't forget accessories for the generator, such as a gas can, fuel stabilizer, etc. Most of these items can be bought online or from a store with curbside pick-up.
