I've taken the ferry a number of times from Larkspur and Oakland to SF and while it can get crowded, it's nothing like BART. Seems like a solid way to commute without having to cram 200 people into a single subway car. How do you think it will do post COVID?

I think it will bounce back more easily than bus service because it's more flexible. But I suspect the peak trips on the Larkspur, Vallejo, and Oakland routes will max out pretty quickly with all the current spacing requirements. Buses will be a headache because they have such small capacity (typically max ~10 passengers at the moment). And BART being BART, I suspect it will be a mess unless they can figure out how to get more of the new cars built, delivered, and put into service. They've rolled out, what, like 60 new cars in 4 years? Ridiculous.

The ferry is a bit problematic, because its routing is so directional and its service is dramatically cut. Pre-lockdown, I'd typically ride it SF- Oakland in the opposite direction of rush hour and it was almost empty in my direction, but pretty packed on the SF-bound boats. Now, with reduced routes and mandatory capacity reduction, I'm sure it'll be much more difficult.

I'd imagine all routes in every direction will be more crowded, too, as people avoid BART and buses in favor of the ferry, where its a lot easier to social distance.
