We have rented pretty much everywhere in the Bay Area (SFO, East Bay, San Jose side etc) and finally bought a house in Menlo Park after much consideration and comparison. We have encountered almost every place to be racist, misogynist but Menlo Park changed that for us. On that note, SFO is good as well but there is a huge exodus out of SFO right now and prices will only continue to fall out there so not sure if I can recommend SFO

I totally disagree. I moved to the BA almost 2 yrs ago & I don't find it to be racist or misogynist at all...IMO it's liberal & diverse like all of California. There's more caring for other ppl...AND it's kinda silly IMO to say that only one city isn't racist. I'm happy you're happy in Menlo Park tho.

I was born & raised in SoCal. The biggest difference to get used to is the beaches & COLD...ha. It would get cool in the winters in Huntington Beach but it can get freezing cold even in the summer months here. edit: I get cold easily tho.^^

With your budget , have you thought about Concord? Concord is about 30 miles away from SF. I wouldn't recommend Oakland, as it has a LOT of crime. It's getting a lot worse during covid-19 as well. But yeah, maybe you should look at Concord, that is one city that you could probably buy a home with your budget.
