I did explain i.e. 'lockdown' is being utilized as a catch-all term which doesn't make a clear distinction directly relative to the thread topic/your OP re: stay-at-home vs. shelter-in-place orders. I couldn't possibly be more on topic.

That said, agreed to move on.

Livermore outlets packed despite stay-at-home order

But at least we're saving lives by closing outdoor dining and preventing people from getting haircuts....

If there is one thing that can universally unite left and right, it's the god given right to go waste money on more chinese made junk.

Yup, Chinese junk is "essential".

Just went to a trail at a local park and there were a hell of a lot more gatherings than there were in Spring (even though the weather is much colder now). A bunch of teenagers were playing volleyball. Kids from different households were playing together on the playground. And adults from different houses were walking and mingling. I'm glad not everyone in the Bay Area is brainwashed.

Uh, haircuts are Chinese junk?

Be careful, your phone, computer, TV and far more are all Chinese made junk. Then pharmaceuticals and a lot more things.

Even as we now begin to emerge from the lockdown, there are more signs that Downtown SF will have an especially difficult time recovering:

Will WFH work for SF?

Are you happy you moved to wine country...or are you worried? I’m super lucky....BUT I know that lots of ppl are worried all over the country. Tbh I see the fear more in this forum tho.^^ Technology isn’t going to change everything. It won’t for me when I get a surgical rotation again. edit: tho I’m not holding my breath..

We will stay in the purple tier for a while. At least until for 2-3 more months and then we might go to red but never return to normal again. California will have Covid restrictions for years to come as there will always be cases with some people refusing the vaccine. No more in person concerts, indoor weddings and birthday parties, conventions, or any large group gathers until at least 2024. If you want "normal" you're going to have to move out of state.

I am happy I moved to Wine Country, but not because I think SF is doomed or won't rebound eventually. I'm not sure it's "fear" that some others have expressed, as much as uncertainty over whether the City has enjoyed so much prosperity for so long that it has forgotten how to be scrappy and build its economy back.

That said, I stand by my assessment that people will go broke betting against San Francisco. There's just too much here to keep it down. I do think a renewed focus on hospitality and tourism is needed for a short-term fix on the industries that are in the most peril, as both the resident and even the daytime population are going to fall way short of propping up the restaurants, hotels, attractions, theaters, museums, etc. to levels the City is accustomed to seeing.

But, get that infrastructure humming again, use the relaxed demand for housing to address homeless issues (as much as possible) and prioritize transit to get the City back up and running and things will start to turn around. For all its charm and appeal, SF can't survive without people in offices and boarded up storefronts. There's a critical mass of customers, commuters, residents, vacationers and day trippers that must be regularly reached regularly for a small city like SF to thrive.
