Hi there,
How old are your kids? My husband and I are newlyweds and are thinking about having some - he works in the southbay and I grew up in the suburbs of Sacramento, so city life with children just boggles my mind. I know people do it but jeesh - so crowded, so much stress?
How do you manage with kids and the lack of backyard and other space??

I'm not sure who you are asking, but two of my kids were born and partially raised in the City. It really wasn't a big deal at the time. We lived in the the Sunset for years but ultimately decided to leave because we didn't think we'd ever be able to own a house. Our rentals however, always had a backyard so this was never a problem. I suppose if you want to raise kids in the city then you wouldn't want to be in some of "crustier" parts. It does seem now days that San Francisco has become more child unfriendly- but not because of it's physical environment. I usually sense a lot more dislike for anything to do with kids from it's incoming young residents that have invaded the once family friendly, bluer collar nature of the City (I'm getting old now, but it seemed much more laid back in the late eighties!). The main stressor was of course trying to find parking- but definitely got progressively worse before I left in 2002.
