I will begin my new job in vacaville, CA in August. I have three young kids. I have never lived in California before. I am not sure which city I chould move in, Benicia or Davis? I heard both areas had good public schools. From the API score, it looks Davis schools are even better. Does any body know the traffic condition from Davis to Vacaville and traffic condition from Benicia to Vacaville in the rush hours? What is the bigger difference between these two cities? I personally like more diversity environment. How is the housing price in these two cities?

Thanks for all your help.

Helen

Brief answers to questions that you should really talk over with a realtor:

The commute on 80 is rarely a problem for either of those commutes. It was built to handle a ton of traffic and it does so very well.
Davis will be more expensive than Benicia, but well worth it. Benicia sits in the shadow of a big oil refinery, and while some residents will say they don't notice it I bet it does have a long-term affect on their health.

You can consider living in Vacaville,it is a nice city. Davis may have higher scoring schools due to the homogenous population associated with the University but Vacaville also has some good schools. Browns Valley is a good area in Vacaville with better house prices than either Benicia or Davis. Also if you live in Davis you are very far from San Francisco if you want to do weekend trips there. Benicia will have cooler summer temperatures than either Vacaville or Davis.

LOOK AT DIXON. When we moved to California 8 years ago a friend directed us to it. Benicia is very nice but pricey. Dixon, Davis and Benicia all have good school systems. Vacaville is very overcrowded. Dixon is right beside Davis and has newer schools. It really depends on how much you want to spend. All 3 areas are good but Davis prices will be high for older homes (very few new homes and you'll have to fight with the college kids for apartments). Benicia has a lot of newer homes starting in the high 700's. Dixon has a variety of old and new. Older homes you can probably pick up in the low 200's. New larger homes starting in the 400's. Dixon and Benicia have larger lots. Davis ?? what's a lot. heh. All three have very little crime. Benicia is cooler but very windy. Hope this helps a bit.

It's changed. Fairfield and Suisun are horrible now. Gangs/drugs, crime bad schools.
