MLB stats (continue to) prove otherwise. Per Power Rankings re: best/worst fanbases in baseball, the Giants have consistently ranked in the top ten (currently 7th) as having more loyal fans, as a whole, than other teams. This is based in re: Nielson, attendance, 'hometown crowd reach', and so on. Giants' fans played a role in the Sacramento River Cats (change in) affiliation as well.

By comparison, the A's have consistently ranked near the bottom of the list (currently second-to-last).

Except this isn't the first time around the block i.e. there have been multiple unsuccessful attempts over the years (originating about 2013/2014). In fact, they had previously planned to be out of the Coliseum for the '23 season.

Because of their ballpark and even then you can tell many people are there just for the "scene". But attendance does generally following their winning percentage. Before PacBell they were no better than the A's, actually slightly worse overall.

Absolutely, enjoying the atmosphere i.e. 'scene' is part of drawing fans to the ballpark (as opposed to watching it on TV). The A's have a problem with both, as evidenced by their second-to-last fanbase loyalty ranking; a new ballpark may certainly help with the former - many remain skeptical about the latter. :-)

That said, one need not eat, drink, and breathe baseball to be considered a loyal Giants' fan i.e. we have the Warriors and Niners to enjoy as well.

Yes and they aren't really there for baseball. So if you create that "scene" in Oakland they'll go there too because it's not really about the team/baseball. Thanks for proving my point lol.

Too funny. You can't simultaneously determine Giants' fans are only in attendance for the ballpark; yet, conversely defend the A's fans for not showing up because of the same reason. By your logic then, would A's fans only be in attendance because of the (new) ballpark (which wouldn't make them loyal fans, lol).

That said, your point is (obviously) nonsense - as the MLB Power Rankings re: most loyal fanbases are relative to other factors in addition to attendance, as stated previously - including TV. The Giants are 7th; the A's are second-to-last.

Of course a new ballpark would draw new fair weather fans, that was my whole point originally. Like I already said, when you compare apples to apples, the Giants drew just as bad as the A's did in their old park.

Well your "power ranking" obviously doesn't take into account what we are discussing, people being there just for the scene, so not sure why you keep clinging to it as if its the end all be all here.

It absolutely does take into account what we're discussing, not only relative to the thread (the A's desperate need for a new ballpark) but addresses your comment (re: Giants' fans) head-on and proves it to be unfounded.

Not really, it just looks at attendance, not why they are in attendance. And even in that case it follows their record. If it's unfounded they why didn't they show up before PacBell?

Again, to keep you (logically) on track, the methodology is based on several factors in addition to attendance including TV and 'hometown reach'. If you want to argue the results (the Giants have the 7th most loyal fan base in the League while the A's are second-to-last), you'll have to take it up with MLB. :-)
