Relocating to San Francisco from Midwest. Can anyone recommend where to settle? Work in San Francisco, 2 elementary school kids, so we need good schools, being close to work, and, if possible not in very seismic hazardous zone. Any advice on that?

The whole area is seismic. I would stay away from any infill areas, as they will turn to mush during a huge earthquake.

Default Another (static) map

If 1989 is any indication, the pretty Marina District is particularly at risk from liquefaction, but there are others, like SoMa.

What about Richmond and Sunset areas in San Francisco? Also considering Burlingame because of good schools reputation.

The schools in Burlingame and Millbrae are excellent all the way through (elementary, middle & high school). And a safe place to live.

Mostly around the bay that have had tidal wetlands filled in with landfill and built upon. Foster City and Redwood Shores are such areas. But the whole area is seismic - but earthquake damage will be worse on landfill areas.

Check out San Carlos south of San Francisco. Safe, nice and good schools and a commuter train to SF (Caltrain).

I met someone from San Carlos a couple months ago and they seemed to love it there, but then again everyone I've met from the Bay Area seems to love their specific town (but they all complain that it's too crowded). I personally used to live in Los Gatos, and it's a nice area. Also check out Los Altos.

Default Where?

Definitely the Castro. No crime. Great role models. Clean air. Interesting people. Nice "ladies". Colorful.
