Actually, Oakley is equidistant between SF and Sacramento - 50 miles to either.

no, not new at all, we had friends that retired there, many years ago. After the husband died she moved to the state of Washington, but they lived in Oakley for about 15 years.

Oakley is part of Contra Costa County so like it or not, its technically part of the Bay Area. Seems like a lot of those in SF look down upon anyplace not named San Francisco.

Living in a distant suburb (or is exburb the new name) has plenty of drawbacks and the housing prices reflect this. With a 50 minute BART ride, plus driving/bus to station in Pittsburg, it has to be a 1 hour 30 minute or more commute daily (probably closer to 2 hours at times). If I lived out there, I'd definitely telecommute as many days as I possibly could. Otherwise, that commute would burn me out fast.

How safe is Oakley? My husband and I want to buy a house outside of silicon valley, and were thinking Oakley. Its not too far to commute and we could save about a million dollars on a house! I don't want to move to a town where parents moved their kids there to get away from the gangs, but their kids are just wannabe gangsters anyways. You know what I'm saying? It's like that in Stockton, Tracy, Los Banos, Gilroy, ya know?

They put on airs when they started making those sunglasses.

Without trying to drag this old thread on any longer, commuting to Silicon Valley from Oakley would be/is a nightmare. If regular drive time is 60 minutes it will take 2 hours in rush our traffic. Aside from two murders in Oakley this year, it's a fairly safe town still. Not much to do out here but driving to the fun stuff isn't too far away.

Oakley is the eastern-most city in Contra Costa County and one of the eastern-most cities in the Bay Area. In fact, only Livermore may be more east.
