I just took a job at Oracle and am trying to figure out the fastest commute. What do you suggest there and back? My hours will be 8-5 and I live off the 580 near the 980 interchange.

Thanks

Congratulations. You have just picked perhaps the WORST possible commute path in the whole Bay area. The Nimitz is a parking lot. The connector (238 between 580 and the Nimitz is horrible). The San Mateo Bridge is awful.

You really haven't got a lot of choices. The best bet I think is just to take the 880 all the way to the 92 (San Mateo Bridge) and grit your teeth. Do *not* drive the 580 to 238, which will be jammed with people coming from Caucasia (i.e., Contra Costa County and the Delta) down to the Valley or Palo Alto.

For a public transport option, take BART to Hayward, then get on the AC Transit M bus. It drops you off right on the Oracle campus. To drive, as Baron said, you take 980 to 880 and take the San Mateo Bridge towards 101 s/b.

I did a similar drive using 238/580 on a Friday afternoon, and I was surprised - traffic was actually much worse going the other direction because of a ballgame in SF. It was about 15 minutes of waiting to merge onto 880, and then from there I got to downtown Oakland in record time! But then I tried to come back at 6 pm via the Bay Bridge. It was stop and go from the foot of the maze to halfway across the span, and the northbound direction was a solid line of cars all the way from 92 to the Bay Bridge and continuing all the way to Oakland.

The two above posts give excellent advice. I'm in complete agreement with the Baron. I'd either find a different job or a different place to live. I hope you're getting paid because that's a nasty commute.

From the way you constructed your post, I'm taking a wild guess you're from LA so maybe you'll feel right at home.

The M has wi Fi, Google transit says to leave before 6, and you get there before 7:45.

from: MacArthur BART station to: 300 Oracle Pkwy, Redwood City, CA - Google Maps

You can work on the bus using the VPN, if you think that might help. Driving will be hard in the land for $4 tolls, and $4.60 gas, but yeah, taking the 980 to 880 to 92 to 101 to Ralston would be the quickest way, make sure you have a FastTrak, or carpool, to pass the bridge toll fast.

Not a good commute at all. There's no avoiding traffic but I guess the quickest route would be 880 to the SM Bridge.
