ParkMerced is right next to SFSU, it's a huge development that isn't excessively expensive and basically serves as SFSU dorms in the absence of the real thing.

I lived in Parkmerced for a year (back in 1994-95), and it was a really nice place... the apartment was a steal at $900 for a 2-story townhouse, but those same units now rent for like $3000.
But I'm not sure the Sunset district has that urban feel, which the OP seems to want. Maybe try upper Haight, which is in-between the Sunset and downtown. You could also look in SoMa or the Mission, but it might be a schlep to school every day. What's your budget, and will you have a car?

But I'm not sure the Sunset district has that urban feel, which the OP seems to want. Maybe try upper Haight, which is in-between the Sunset and downtown. You could also look in SoMa or the Mission, but it might be a schlep to school every day. What's your budget, and will you have a car?
