I am a working mom with 1-year-old baby, I am thinking to move to Belmont from Palo Alto. I understand that Belmont is a nice little town. The apartment I am looking at right now is one of the 707 old country road apartments. One bedroom starts at $1400/month, which is not bad since it is more than 800sqft. Anybody here familiar with the apartment complex? my biggest concern is it is located at east side of El Camino Real, and it is right next to Caltrain rail. I wonder if it is safe to live there with a baby?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's Old County Road actually. Very good complex in a slightly sketchy neighborhood (by Belmont standards - very low crime rate), but a great school district. As you say the space you get is huge for the money. It's in an area that has a lot of small industrial complexes - skilled labor.

Thanks, sonarrat.
I am also looking at aparments near Hillsdale shopping center. I heard some part in San Mateo is nice, some part is not. What about the place on the north side of Hillsdale shopping center? I am particularly looking at Hillsdale garden apartments. Know anything about it?
Thanks.

You're probably better off sticking with Belmont imo.

I'm also looking into this 707 old county apt. I'm single female.
Does anyone know whether it's quite in this neighbourhood? (Will it be very noisy since it's very close to caltrain station?)
I also found the rating on apartmentrating.com is quite high, but I doubt whether it's rated by the staff in the apt...

Well, there are freight trains in addition to the passenger trains. There are even trains in the middle of the night, and they are LOUD. Besides the trains, it is a peaceful and homey area. If you think it will pose a major problem, I'd suggest renting in the Ralston/Alameda de las Pulgas area instead. There are plenty of rentals of similar quality and price.
